About FleetFounder

The most expensive thing in your driveway does nothing all day.

A car is the second-largest purchase most people ever make, and it spends about 23 hours a day sitting still. We started FleetFounder because that stopped being a fact of life and started being a choice.

Availability isn't income — demand, platform fees, cleaning, insurance and depreciation all take a bite, and they're the whole reason the calculator exists. But every hour in that second row is an hour you're currently giving away for free.

The reframe

Same car. Opposite side of the ledger.

Every car you've ever bought was an expense. You picked the payment you could tolerate, and then you tolerated it — for sixty months, while the asset lost value and sat idle.

An autonomous vehicle doesn't change the left column. It adds a right one. That's the entire idea. Not a fantasy about getting rich off a car — just the observation that the line item can now run in both directions, and that almost nobody is doing the arithmetic on what that means.

Why one car

Every fleet owner started by buying a single vehicle.

The robotaxi conversation is being had almost entirely by people with balance sheets — manufacturers, funds, operators buying in blocks of a thousand. Meanwhile the thing that actually decides whether this works for a normal person is knowable for the price of one car you were probably going to buy anyway.

So that's where we start. One vehicle is a side hustle: small enough to be honest about, big enough to teach you everything — real utilization in your market, real cleaning costs, real insurance answers, real tax treatment. Ten vehicles is a fleet. The only difference between the two is what you learned on the first one.

We'd rather have ten thousand members who each ran the numbers carefully and half of whom walked away, than a hundred who bought on vibes.

The path

Five stages, in order, no skipping.

01LearnHow autonomous fleet economics actually work — utilization, take rates, duty cycles, depreciation curves.
02ModelYour car, your city, your down payment. The calculator, run against assumptions you can defend out loud.
03FundComingFinancing built for a revenue-producing vehicle, not a commuter. Entity setup, insurance, the CPA who's seen this before.
04LaunchComingDay one to first payout. Charging, cleaning, downtime, and the boring operational stuff that decides your margin.
05ScaleComingVehicle two through ten. When the math says add, and — just as often — when it says stop.

Who we're for

This is a room, not an audience.

Nobody has ten years of experience running a personal robotaxi. There is no guru here, and you should be suspicious of anyone claiming otherwise. What there is, is a few thousand people figuring out the same thing at the same time and posting their real numbers — including the ones that didn’t work.

Good fit

You'll like it here if

  • You're buying a car in the next 18 months regardless
  • You want to own the fleet, not drive for one
  • You'd rather argue with a spreadsheet than a salesperson
  • You'd start with one and decide from there

Bad fit

You'll hate it here if

  • You want passive income with no operations
  • You need this to work — it might not, in your market
  • You're looking for a number to confirm a decision you've made
  • You want someone to tell you it's guaranteed

What we owe you

The four things we won't do, in writing.

  • We won't sell you a car. We don't take a cut of the vehicle. Our incentive is that your math is right, not that you buy.
  • We won't hide the assumptions. Every model on this site shows its inputs and lets you break them. Estimates are labeled as estimates.
  • We won't disguise sponsors. Paid placements say "sponsored" in plain language, every time.
  • We won't tell you it's a sure thing. Regulation, demand and pricing are all still moving. Anyone who says otherwise is selling something.
